Oh, it’s carnival night And they’re stringing the lights around you

Hello 2013, so very nice to meet you.

Yes, it’s that time again of year when we look back at the last 12 months and then desperately hope for better things to come in the next 12.

Build a new beginning on an old rock

Elton-wise 2012 will probably be best remembered for the release of Good Morning to the Night. Personally, I really like this album although I know a lot of fans are less keen. OK so it loses points for delaying the release of The Diving Board, but it’s a clever, chilled out album with a lot to recommend it, not least the achievement of getting to No 1 in the UK album charts.

2012 also saw the release of Love is the Cure which is a very moving and informative book. It’s definitely worth a second read as well, just to make sense of all the facts and figures. Or you can get the audiobook and have Elton read them to you instead which is much better.

Breathe deep of the sweet fresh air

London 2012 Diving Boards!

Moving swiftly onto 2013 and finally, finally we hope to see the release of The Diving Board. The original recording took place at the beginning of 2012, over just two days, which must be some kind of record. However subsequent delays have given Elton and Bernie a chance to reflect and to write some further tracks more in keeping with the overall theme of the album. Elton is due to join producer T-Bone Burnett in the studio this month to record the new material. The latest rumours suggest a May release. Let’s hope they reward our patience with a double-album!

Whether the release was pushed from March to May to make way for the arrival of Elton and David’s second child remains to be seen. At least this birth won’t be quite the shock the first one was to most of us!

I am also looking forward to whatever celebrations are planned for the 40th anniversary of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I still have my fingers crossed for a live performance of the album featuring a cast of characters from the songs including Roy Rogers on Trigger and Marilyn Monroe (of course!).

Chance a new beginning

I treated myself to a nice shiny new computer over Christmas. It turns on straight away and does what it’s supposed to, which is a vast improvement on the old one, so in the coming months you can expect some changes on this site, and a lot more updates and blog postings. If you have any ideas or improvements please let me know using the contact us link at the bottom of the page.

It only remains for me to thank you for visiting the site in 2012 and to wish you all health, happiness and Elton-related goodies in 2013.
